The Thor Tech branding project was a series of assignments for my Visual Communications class at BYU-Idaho. Thor Tech is a (fictional) computer parts and repair shop located in Poulsbo, WA, aka "Little Norway." I envisioned Thor Tech as a company that was very tech savvy but also had a sense of humor about itself, so I wanted to communicate that in the branding. I used the font Rift Soft throughout the branding, as I felt it was a very futuristic and clean-looking font.
In designing the Thor Tech logo, I wanted to incorporate both the Norse and technological connotations of the name. I decided that simple illustrations of Thor's hammer Mjolnir and an electric plug would communicate this to the viewer, with the lightning bolt uniting the two. The dark blue of the logo background was chosen because I felt that it was a dramatic color that would look good in solid blocks.
While creating the letterhead and business card, I wanted to keep the unifying element of the solid color blocks. I felt that having the large blue block on the side of the letterhead was a unique and unusual element that would communicate the idea of Thor Tech being a forward-thinking company. I then chose to use a vertical business card because it matched well with the letterhead.
I received a lot of great feedback on this project from my classmates, my instructors, and my friends and family. I am extremely proud of my work on the Thor Tech project!
